Flat Tops

When I'm not building archtop guitars I'm busy creating flat top guitars as well. There's never a dull moment in my shop and keeping several guitars under construction at a time is a way of life with me.

My flat tops are built with the same attention detail and exacting standards as are my archtop models. Kubiak flat top guitars are known for their great tonal color, playability and imaginative detail.

Inquire about the models shown or feel free to present your ideas about a custom Kubiak guitar.

The Hobo

At just 34" Hobo is a small guitar with a lot of personality.

When I first strung Hobo up I was in for a big surprise. I was first struck by the amount of volume this small bodied guitar produced but when I played further it was the tonal color delivered with such brightness that really amazed and inspired me to include Hobo as a model I would continue to build. I build Hobo with a proportionally deep body and a fair amount of back arching and moderate dome which helps produce such rich tone and gives this small guitar tremendous volume.

The Mariposa

A deep bodied 16" jumbo with back and sides of quilted Western Bigleaf Maple and a coastal redwood top I split from a billet that was cut from the log 90 years ago. The name for this guitar derives from the beautiful endangered Mariposa Sagebrush Lily, a native to the arid lands of this northern region of the Great Basin Desert. A stylized version of this flower, cut from mother of pearl is inlayed in the ebony headstock face and on the back just below the neck heel. This 12 fret to the body guitar responds exceptionally well to bass and treble alike with boldness of tone, bright and full bodied. Mariposa's low action provides for great left hand agility and freedom. It is interesting to note that among Django Reinhardt's favorite guitars was his 12 fret to the body Maccaferri.
